Another look at a VDS

Managing the process of stock movement, trucks entering a site as well as trucks leaving a site can become a nightmare if we want to tie all these items together. The process usually starts with a customer that requires stock. This need is usually managed by a PO, purchase order. The logistics department now needs to associate this PO to a requirement of vehicle form a transporter. The transporter needs to be notified regarding when and where the truck needs to pitch up. The transporter also needs to know where the load is going and what is being loaded. The packing deportment needs to be informed as to what is required to load at a specific time. The weighbridge needs to be informed that a truck is actually arriving on site. The store/ warehouse personnel need to know what must be loaded when the truck arrives. This is usually in the form of a picking slip. The logistics department need to have the peace of mind that the correct items have been loaded. Logistics also need to be aware of the vehicle cycle time on site. Ardent Clouds has created a concept known as a VDS (Vehicle Dispatch Schedule). A logistics planner creates a VDS for a specific load in Ardent X The following takes place; 1. The actual vehicle needs are determined 2. The PO is attached to the VDS 3. The transporter info is added 4. The truck info is added 5. The VDS is now planned 6. The tuck arrives at the weighbridge / on site 7. The operator checks the info and allows to be weighed in 8. The truck proceeds to the store 9. The truck is loaded using the picking slip on the HH device – Pallets etc. are serialised 10. The loading is completed on the HH device 11. The truck proceeds to the weighbridge 12. The truck is weighed out 13. The system check the load info/ Po info etc. 14. The invoice is created 15. The necessary COC/COA’S are created 16. Truck leaves site Full traceability is maintained from order to customer.
